Everest Program

This afternoon students in our grade four classes participated in the Everest Program.

Run by students at Dalhousie Medical School since 2002, the goal is to educate elementary school kids about healthy living.

Armed with pamphlets, games, information, and prizes, the Dalhousie students spent two hours in the classroom teaching Grade 4 students about the importance of proper nutrition and physical activity.

Through interactive activities the Students learned about:

  • the three types of physical activities and their benefits to their bodies
  • Using Canada’s Food Guide and products nutritional labels to help guide nutritious food choices
  • the effects of  smoking on the body
  • How to take their pulse and learned how to use a let stethoscope to listen to their own heartbeat
  • How to Prevent sunburn

Below are some pics from our afternoon.

Musical Instruments

Students have begun to present their homemade musical instruments. I absolutely love this project and am excited each day to watch them enthusiastically and proudly present their creation. Here are videos of them playing songs or tunes on them during their presentations. I am downloading their pics and videos to a file that I am sharing with them individually through Google Docs. This will allow you to access the pics at home as well.
